Cookbook Camera Project-CB245

Updated 10/30/2003

News 10/30/2003: I ended up selling this camera to finance an SBIG ST7 camera. The user interface including the software, lack of cables, about double the pixel count, smaller pixels and low cost of a used ST7 added up to my desire to upgrade. I hope to have images soon.

I have a working version of a Cookbook 245 Camera since about January 2002. I have not performed the LDC modification, and the exposures I have been taking have a good bit of dark current in them. I have been subtracting dark masters from my luminance images, of course, but if I can reduce the noise I should be able to go much deeper.

Here's what my current imaging system looking like:
* Home-built 8" f5.5 Newtonian Reflector
* Losmandy G-11 mount
* CB245 CCD Camera
* Dell Notebook - image aquisition & processing

Work completed to date:
Interface board tested & completedTesting on this board went with no problems.
Preamp board tested & completedMaking this component was fine, but I did manage to blow a capacitor recently while trying my first-light test. It appears I had a short on the j2/j3 connectors.
Update 2-15-2001 It turns out I didn't blow any components. I just retested, found a couple of problems and fixed them. I have now integrated numerous images (without a cooling system) in my basement. It works!
Camera body completeI bought the machined University Optics camera head.
Power supplyCompleted per spec
Cooling systemI originally used the windshield pump, but have replaced it with a bilge pump which is much quieter and should run much better.

Outstanding Work:
LDC UpgradeI need to do this upgrade to reduce Dark Current.
